Candle Care
The Art of a Beautiful Burn
At Lumière du Luxe, we believe a candle is more than a fragrance—it is an experience. Proper candle care not only ensures a cleaner, safer burn but also allows you to enjoy the full beauty and performance of your candle from the first light to the last glow.
Before You Light
Trim the Wick
Before each burn, trim the wick to approximately ¼ inch. A properly trimmed wick helps prevent excessive smoke, soot, and uneven burning while promoting a steady, elegant flame. This simple practice also helps your candle last longer as well.
Choose the Right Location
Always place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from drafts, ceiling fans, open windows, and air vents. Drafts can cause uneven burning, flickering, and unnecessary soot buildup.
During the Burn
Burn Within Sight
Never leave a burning candle unattended. Always extinguish your candle before leaving the room or going to sleep.
Keep Away From Children and Pets
Place candles in locations that cannot be reached by curious hands, paws, or tails.
Keep Away From Things That Can Burn or Catch Fire
Always maintain a safe distance between your candle and curtains, books, bedding, décor, paper products, and other flammable materials and gases.
Limit Burn Time
For optimal performance, do not burn your candle for more than four hours at a time. Allowing the candle to cool before relighting helps preserve fragrance quality and vessel integrity.
Keeping Your Candle Beautiful
Keep Wax Free of Debris
Remove any wick trimmings, matches, dust, or foreign objects from the wax surface before lighting. A clean wax pool contributes to a cleaner, safer burn.
Extinguish Carefully
Use a candle snuffer or gently blow out the flame to minimize smoke. Allow the wax to cool and solidify completely before moving or relighting the candle.
A Note on Natural Wax Behavior
Our candles are thoughtfully crafted with a premium coconut-apricot wax blend. Because natural waxes behave differently than paraffin-based alternatives, you may notice a subtle layer of wax remaining along the vessel walls after the first few burns. This is perfectly normal.
As the candle burns and the vessel warms, this wax will gradually melt and become part of the wax pool. These subtle variations are characteristic of natural waxes and reflect our commitment to cleaner, more refined ingredients.
A Note on Natural Wax Appearance
Did you know that natural waxes respond to changes in temperature? As wax expands and contracts, you may occasionally notice small gaps between the wax and the glass vessel or areas where the wax appears to have pulled away from the sides.
This is a completely normal characteristic of natural wax and does not affect the performance, fragrance, or quality of your candle. In fact, it is often a sign of a clean, natural wax formulation free from many of the additives commonly found in lesser-quality alternatives.
When It’s Time to Say Goodbye
For safety, discontinue use when approximately ¼ inch of wax remains at the bottom of the vessel. Burning beyond this point may cause the container to overheat.
A Final Thought
The soft glow of candlelight has a way of transforming a space, elevating a moment, and creating lasting memories. With proper care, your Lumière du Luxe candle will continue to fill your home with warmth, beauty, and fragrance throughout its entire burn life.
Because true luxury is found in the details.
